Lisbon is known for its beautiful viewing platforms, also called „miradouro“. Overlooking the many sights and the Tejo river, the city offers the perfect setting for breathtaking views, perfect for enjoying some sun after work or catching up with friends. Here, we reveal our 5 favorite views, that you should definitely visit during your year abroad in Lisbon.
Miradouro de Santa Catarina
The Miradouro de Santa Catarina offers a perfect view of the charming Tejo river, the impressive Cristo Rei statue, and Lisbon’s famous bridge. You can sit in the surrounding bars and cafes or enjoy a refreshing drink or just sit on the platform and enjoy the casual ambiance.
Miradouro de Santa Luiza
The Miradouro de Santa Luiza is located in Lisbon’s famous old town: Alfama. The square is decorated with Lisbon’s traditional mosaic tiles as well as colorful flowers that make the dreamlike place look almost too idyllic. Here you have a beautiful view of the red roofs of the city and the Igreja de Santa Engrácia.
Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara
From here you have a breathtaking view of the old Castelo de São Jorge. The Miradouro is located directly in front of the famous city and bar district „Bairro Alto.“ This is also where people like to gather to wind down after work.
Miradouro Jardim do Torel
Jardim do Torel is one of the less known viewing platforms and therefore less visited. Nevertheless, the view is definitely worth a visit! You see the city from a different angle and have a nice long evening sun. It’s best to grab a picnic blanket, pack some snacks and relax on one of the grassy areas. A little tip: if you go down the stairs one level further, you’ll reach a fountain that is often used as a public pool on hot summer days!
Miradouro da Graça
Miradouro da Graça is probably one of the best spots to enjoy the sunset. It goes down on the exact opposite side and thus, offers a romantic ambience with a view of the entire city.
